The Nemaha Central Middle School boys basketball team headed to Holton to take on the Wildcats for the first time this season on Thursday, January 19. The NC boys were excited to play some basketball to try to get another four victories.

The Thunder eighth grade A-team started off strong scoring 18 points in the first quarter tripling Holton’s score of 6. The Thunder boys didn’t have as good of a second quarter as the Wildcats outscored them 8-9. The Thunder still took a 26-15 lead into halftime.

The second half of the game started off strong with NC scoring 14 points and Holton only scoring 4. The final quarter of the game wasn’t the best, but the Thunder team managed to outscore Holton once more 9-6. The final score was 49-25 with Nemaha Central winning

Ben Bletscher said, “We had really good positive energy which helped us beat Holton.”

The eighth grade B-team started off well with NC scoring 11 and Holton scoring only 2. The second quarter was not as good offensively for NC as they only scored 7 points ending the first half 18-4.

The second half was about the same for the Thunder as they outscored Holton 9-4. The Thunder was leading the Wildcats 27-8 by the end of the third quarter. The final quarter of the game wasn’t the best for NC as they only scored a couple of baskets. The game ended with a Thunder win 31-11.

The seventh grade A-team also traveled to Holton to try and get yet another win. The Thunder boys started the game off strong as they scored 12 points in the first quarter while holding the Wildcats to 6. The second quarter was similar with NC scoring 12 points once more and Holton scoring 7 ending the half with a score of 24-13.

The second half started off close with both teams scoring 10 points as the game moved on to the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, NC only scored 7 points with Holton scoring 11, but in the end, NC won 41-34.

Dason Hill said, “It was a well-played game that gave us another win.”

The Thunder seventh grade B-team started off the next game with 4 points while Holton scored 2. The second quarter was about the same with NC scoring 3 and Holton scoring 2 points making the halftime score 7-4 with an NC lead.

The start of the second half found Holton scoring more and  NC just getting a basket.  Holton added 7 points to take the lead 9-11. NC  was determined to get the win as they scored 8 in the final quarter while holding Holton to 2 points.   The Thunder team picked up another win on the road with a final score of 17-13.

The Thunder teams came out with wins on the road and hope to continue this success with hard work and determination.
