The Nemaha Central Elementary and Middle School had another pep rally for the school year on Thursday, January 12. The pep rally was held to highlight the upcoming boys basketball season and to recap the football, girls basketball, and wrestling seasons. As usual, there was also a fun game planned.
Dr. Beck started off the pep rally by asking all the football players and Coach Hadden Hiltgen to come down. The boys received their medals for tying as Big 7 League Champs. The coach said that they had a three-way tie with Jeff West and Hiawatha.
Next, the wrestling team came down and they were also handed medals for winning the Big 7 League. Then they announced that Logan Richards, Caleb Hynek, and Kyler Ganstrom were in the 21 club for achieving 21 or more wins for the season. Lastly, for the wrestlers, Kyler Ganstrom was the first from NCMS to be an undefeated champion.
After that, they called all the seventh grade basketball girls down and Coach Jesse Macke said that the team went undefeated this season finishing first in the Big 7 League. They also received medals for their achievement.
The cheerleaders had a fun game planned for some of the boys basketball team. Some boys from the team were called down to participate. The boys partnered up and had to do a three-legged race. Conner Lueger and Keagan Graf won and they advanced to the championship. The rest of the participants had to do an egg race with a spoon in their mouths. Cormik Hajek won and also advanced to the final round.
In the championship round, Conner Lueger, Keagan Graf, and Cormik Hajek had an Oreo on their forehead and could only use their facial muscles to get it in their mouth. After an intense 10 seconds, Conner managed to get the Oreo in his mouth and won.
The pep rally wrapped up with the victory cheer for the ‘Spirit Stick.’ The judges came to the decision that the fourth grade had the most spirit and they won the stick.
Haley Wood said, ”The pep rally was very exciting and I am disappointed that we did not win the spirit stick."
Cole Ranieri said, "The pep rally was energetic with the excitement of 3 different teams being league champs."
No matter what, NCEMS will always have the best pep rallies.
