The Nemaha Central Middle School basketball team traveled to Mayetta and Hoyt on Thursday, October 20 to take on the Royal Valley Panthers. It was the second game of the season and the girls were ready to defeat their opponents. With the wins for the NC 7th graders on Monday at Perry, they were ready to keep their winning streak going. Both 8th graders had a hard loss on Monday, so they were ready to get their first wins of the season.
The Thunder 8th grade A-team was ready to dominate. The game had a slow start, but the NC girls came out on top in the first quarter with a score of 3-0. In the second quarter, the girls started making their shots and were up 15-7 at halftime.
The third quarter was a little deceiving as the girls lost momentum and Royal Valley played good defense tying the score at 17 apiece. The fourth quarter was close as both teams played really good defense. NC fought hard for the win and came up with the victory as the quarter came to a close with a score of 25-22.
Emma Hermesch said, “We played well for our second game of the season and we ended up getting a win.”
The 8th grade B-team had a really good game. In the first quarter, the girls put up a lot of shots and most of them went in. The first quarter score was 9-2, with a NC lead. The Thunder girls held the Panthers to just 2 baskets in the second quarter, while they almost doubled their score. The score at halftime was 17-6 with a big Thunder lead.
After halftime, the girls were ready to defeat Royal Valley. The lead stayed the same after the end of the third quarter as both teams scored 8 points bringing the score to 25-14. In the fourth quarter, both teams played hard and the NC B-team came out with a win against Royal Valley, 32-20.
The 7th grade A-team was ready to get their second win of the season. The Thunder girls came out on fire in the first quarter dominating the Panthers with a score of 16-2. The scoring slowed down in the second quarter but the Thunder girls still had a big lead, 24-4.
The Lady Thunder came out of halftime ready to play. They had outstanding defense and didn’t let the Panthers score. The score at the end of the third quarter was 32-4. The Thunder did not let up on defense and the game ended with a 36-4 victory.
Macy Holthaus said, “We came out with a lot of intensity and played strong from start to finish.”
The 7th grade B-team had an outstanding first quarter holding the Panthers scoreless. Their offense was clicking and the score at the end of the quarter was 13-0. Again in the second quarter they didn’t let Royal Valley score and they increased their lead to 19.
NC came out of the half ready to dominate the Panthers and played excellent defense only letting Royal Valley score 4 points. The final score of the quarter was 25-4. The Lady Thunder had an amazing fourth quarter to end the game and get the win, 31-8.
NC had an amazing night with all four teams getting a victory. They hope to continue their sweep on the night throughout the season.
