The Thunder team on Offense

The Nemaha Central Middle School Football team played Hiawatha on Thursday, September 22. The Thunder were planning on getting back on their winning streak. They were hoping to end the night with a record of 3-1.

The Thunder kicked off to the Hiawatha Red Hawks to start the game. The Red Hawks moved the ball down the field, burning up most of the first quarter. The Thunder's defense held the Red Hawks from scoring and the Thunder gained possession of the ball.  The Thunder team was moving the ball down the field when the first quarter came to a close. The first quarter ended with a score of 0-0.

The second quarter of play started and NC had the ball. On the first play of the quarter, the Thunder rolled into the end zone scoring the first touchdown of the game. The Thunder tried a 2-point conversion but failed. On the next drive by the Red Hawks, the Thunder team sacked the Red Hawk’s quarterback and was able to get the ball back. The Thunder team was able to score a touchdown and get the 2-point conversion to increase their lead.  On the next Hiawatha series, they had a good run but were stopped by the Thunder defense. With that ball and a few minutes left before the half,  NC rolled into the endzone again and the 2-point conversion was good. At halftime,  the score was 22-0 with a Thunder lead.

To start the third quarter the Red Hawks kicked off to the Thunder. The Thunder had a good run then fumbled the ball. The Red Hawks were able to convert that turnover into a touchdown and the score was 22-6. The Thunder came back with a drive of their own to score another touchdown and convert the extra points and the score was now, 30-6. The Red Hawks fought back and with a good run scored a touchdown but the 2-point conversion was no good. To end the quarter, the Thunder drove the ball down the field and scored again. The score at the end of the third quarter was 36-12.

The fourth quarter was back and forth with good defense by both teams. They exchanged touchdowns towards the end of the quarter and the Thunder came away with a victory 42-20. 

Will Deters said,  “We played a good game and went home with the win.”

Colton Blume said, “We did our best to take home the win.”
