NC player getting tacked by Riverside player

On Thursday, October 6 the Nemaha Central Middle School football team traveled to Wathena to take on the Riverside Cyclones. The Thunder football team‘s record going into the matchup was 4-1 and the Cyclone's record was sitting at 0-4, looking for their first win against the mighty Thunder.

The Thunder team started off with a kick and the Cyclones ran the ball to their 20-yard line. NC's defense came out strong, stopped the Cyclones early on, and got the ball back. It didn’t take long for NC to get their first touchdown of the game. During the first quarter, the cyclones struggled to move the ball giving the Thunder one more opportunity to score in the first quarter.

Going into the second quarter NC was leading 16-0. After many stops by the Thunder's defense, the Cyclones couldn’t get anything going for them. With a run play up the middle, the Thunder scored yet again making the score 24-0. During this quarter the Thunder was dominant on offense and would score two more times, one with a 2-point conversion and then the other touchdown the 2- point conversion was denied by the Cyclone defense. The Thunder went into halftime confident with their lead on the Cyclones 38-0.

Isaac Heinen said, “I felt like our performance was really good, and I can’t wait to play Sabetha.”

After halftime, the Cyclones kicked to NC. The Cyclone's defense came out hot and ready to play. They shut down the NC offense forcing them to give it up on downs. This didn’t stop NC from attacking the end zone one more time increasing the score to 46-0.

Going into the last quarter of play, the Thunder had no intentions of slowing down making yet another touchdown and bringing the score to 52-0. NC tried their best for a shutout but the Cyclones were determined. With little time left in the fourth quarter, the Cyclones were able to make their first touchdown of the game and their two-point conversion, making it 52-8 at the end of the game. With the win over Riverside, the  Thunder team improved their record to 5-1.

Braden Macke said, “It was really fun because it was a blow out so everyone got to play.”
