The Nemaha Central Middle School volleyball season has officially come to an end. The 7th grade team ended the season with a record of 7-0 in league play. The girls were ready to take on the competition at the Big Seven League Tournament that took place on Saturday, October 1 at Perry-Lecompton Middle School.
Going into the tournament, the Thunder girls were seeded first and would play Perry, Riverside, and Jeff West in pool play. The Thunder started off the morning strong with a victory in the first set over the Perry-Lecompton Kaws with a score of 25-15. The team carried over the momentum into the second set and won 25-14. Next up, the team played the Riverside Cyclones and they were dominant in the first set winning 25-6. In the second set, the Thunder added another win under their belts with a score of 25-17. The Jeff West Tigers were the final team to battle the Thunder. The first set went extremely well and the Thunder girls won 25-7. They continued the momentum into the second set and won 25-19.
“It was definitely an adrenaline rush,” stated Alexis Beebe-Dishong.
The Thunder was now out of pool play and on to play in the semi-finals against the Holton Wildcats. The game started off rocky with the girls losing the first set 16-25. However, the Thunder team put in hard work and won the second set 25-21. In the third set, they played to win and did just that with a score of 15-7 to move on to the championship match.
The Thunder team would face the Hiawatha Red Hawks in the championship match. The Thunder team came ready to play, however, they lost the first set in a nailbiter with a score of 24-26. Things turned around for the Thunder girls in the second set and they won 25-20. The challenging third set was another close one, but the Thunder came up short with a score of 13-15. The seventh grade placed second in the Big Seven League Tournament.
Wrigly Williams said, “I think we played really well all day, it was fun and a great time.”
The Thunder 7th grade volleyball team had an excellent season finishing undefeated in regular season play and placing second in the Big Seven League Tournament. Their overall record for the season was 13-1. Great job Lady Thunder on an awesome volleyball season!
