The Nemaha Central Middle School football team hosted the Holton Wildcats on Thursday, September 29. The Thunder was looking for their second home win and looking to grab their fourth win on the season. The Holton Wildcats came into the game looking to improve their record.
The Thunder started off strong in the first quarter and within three minutes of the game, they had already scored and converted for two extra points. Nemaha Central didn’t stop at just eight points, they added two more touchdowns to their total. They cruised through the first quarter having a 22-point advantage over the Wildcats going into the second quarter.
Just like the first quarter, the Thunder started off hot in the second. They jumped on the Wildcats early into the second quarter and within two minutes had already scored another touchdown. Nemaha Central kept this trend going as they would score their second touchdown of the quarter on a fumble that was scooped up and carried into the endzone. The Thunder went into the half feeling confident with their 36-0 lead over the Wildcats.
Kalem Schmelzle said, “Going into halftime I felt good about our performance so far, and how we were handling the Wildcats.”
The second half started off with a quick touchdown for the Thunder. They were, unfortunately, unable to convert on the two-point conversion. Neither Nemaha Central nor Holton was able to score after the early touchdown in the quarter. The Thunder went into the fourth quarter with their heads up, as they were on top 42-0.
The fourth quarter started off slow for the Thunder. Nemaha Central was still stopping Holton from getting into the end zone. Halfway through the fourth quarter, the Thunder team was finally able to score a touchdown and convert for two extra points. This would indeed be the final score of the game as the Thunder beat Holton by a score of 50-0.
Camden Scism said, “I feel that our performance was very good. I can’t wait to see what we can do for our next game.”
