The Nemaha Central Middle School Thunder football team started their season off at Perry- Lecompton on Thursday, September 1. NC’s football team consists of 15 eighth graders and 10 seventh graders. The Thunder’s manager is Aiden Streeter and the coaches are Hadden Hiltgen, Michael Ohlsen, and Jesse Helm.

The Thunder started off strong in the first quarter and within three minutes of the game, they had already scored and converted for two extra points. The Thunder continued to roll through the first quarter as they took a 16-0 lead.

In the second quarter, the Thunder team headed in the same direction as the first quarter by getting into the endzone early. The Thunder was holding Perry out of the endzone enough to be able to score 14 more points. As the game continued into halftime,  the score was 30-0.

Cole Ranieri said, “It was a strong first half and a good way to have all the momentum on our side.”

The Thunder team started off the second half pretty well. They were still holding Perry from getting into the endzone and were able to score 6 more points in the third quarter. Going into the fourth quarter, the Thunder had a dominating lead 36-0. The Thunder was looking to add a few more points and did just that scoring eight more and shutting out Perry-Lecompton by a score of 44-0.

Will Young said, “It was a good game to start off a promising year for us.”
