The Nemaha Central Middle School volleyball team traveled to Perry for their second game of the season on Thursday, September 1. With most teams winning on the opening night, they were looking for some more wins. The 7th and 8th grade teams went into Thursday evening’s games with a lot of confidence and most of the teams came home with a victory.
The 8th grade A-team started out the night slow as Perry jumped out with an 8-point lead. The Thunder team fought back and took over the lead to come out with a win in the first set, 25-20. In the second set, the girls were challenged again as Perry won the set 10-25. The Thunder regained their confidence and came out on top in the third set and won 15-11. This gave them their first match win of the season.
Marin Heinen said, “It was a tough battle, but we fought through it and came out with a win!”
The first 8th grade game luck carried over to the 8th grade B-team game. In the first set, the Thunder team started off strong and worked hard to come out with a win in the first set, 25-16. In the second set, the Thunder team struggled a little bit, but they got some good hits and came out with a win in the second set, 25-21. The Thunder girls did an amazing job of keeping their confidence and came out on top in the third set with a score of 15-11.
The 7th grade A-team had an awesome second match of the season. In the first set, they dominated Perry with some good serves and came out of the set winning with a score of 25-8. They kept their confidence up in the second set with some good hits to top off the set with a winning score of 25-16.
The great serves from the 7th A-team game carried over into the 7th grade B-team's first set. The Thunder girls played well in the first set to get the victory 25-16. The second set was very close. The Thunder team fought hard until the end of the set but ended up losing 26-28. With both teams winning a set, the third set would decide the match win. After the second set loss, the Thunder team could not rebound in the final set losing 8-15.
Macy Holthaus said, “The bus ride was fun, it was fun to cheer on my teammates, and I enjoyed playing with my team.”
The Thunder teams are having a great season and hope to keep having fun during the season.
