Every year, the Nemaha Central Elementary School Parent/Teacher Organization provides awards for first through fifth grade students for Accelerated Reader points. This year, the Accelerated Reader store took place on Friday, May 13.
Throughout the semester, students read books and took tests on them to earn AR points. With those points, the first through third graders could buy treats or toys from the AR store. Fourth and fifth graders earned points to work towards a movie day. Students who earned 100 or more points were allowed to attend a pizza party.
Each first through third grader was able to spend up to 150 of their AR points. There were prizes worth a variety of different points to ensure that all students were able to buy a prize or prizes they were satisfied with. The AR store consisted of volleyballs, footballs, squish toys, bath bombs, snacks, dinosaur toys, stuffed animals, and much more.
Fourth and fifth graders worked toward a movie theater award. Students had to earn at least 30 points to attend the movie. The number of points they earned determined the number of snacks they could get; up to pop, popcorn, and candy.
The students love getting rewarded for their hard work throughout the semester. The AR store and movie help to encourage students to read and meet their goals. Giving these students the opportunity for these awards is a fun but challenging task to brighten up the end of the year. Thank you NC PTO for making these activities possible!
