Nemaha Central Middle School welcomed the Career Fair back for middle school students on Wednesday, April 20. Seventh and eighth graders had an educational opportunity to learn about many different career clusters and opportunities to do in high school. They had a wide variety of topics to learn about, from careers in the health field and communication technology to a KSNT News weather anchor who came to talk about meteorology. Mrs. Laurie Niehues organized the Career Fair and students were glad to take a break from classes to learn from others in the career field.
Matt Miller started the Career Fair off with a speech, telling the students about choosing a career path. He told them to start thinking about what they want to do once they reach adulthood. Matt Miller also did a breakout session about his experiences working as a weather anchor.
Vivian Thayer said, “It was very informative. I really think that future seventh and eighth-grade students will enjoy this. It really helped me get a better insight about my future career and what I plan to do after high school.”
Julie Bergman did a breakout session about the finance career cluster. She works at Rainbow Communications. She talked about what she does there and the many jobs in that business. She also gave students their own bags with the Rainbow logo on them.
Lori Lueger talked about jobs in the medical field. She talked about the schooling it takes to become a nurse practitioner and the different jobs people can have in the medical field. She also brought an instrument to look into people's ears to get the students more engaged.
Cara Baker talked about the convenience of going to community college and then an actual college. She talked about what college classes you could take as a high schooler and how those classes could let you graduate high school with several college credit hours and even an associate’s degree.
Finally, some high school students came and talked about different classes that middle schoolers could take once in high school. They talked about what classes you might want to take for certain job fields. They also provided a dip, they made two different ways for all the participating students to try.
Aiden Streeter said, “I thought the career fair was pretty inspiring and I thought it helped some kids find out what they want to be.”
This was a great educational opportunity for the students. Thanks to all those who took the time out of their day to come to talk to the students. We hope the middle school students learned something and that they feel a little more confident with their future plans.
