Nemaha Central Middle School came home with some great placings at the Perry meet held on Monday, February 28. Both eighth-grade and seventh-grade teams placed first and third at the meet.
The eighth grade A-team won the first round 60-40 against Jeff West, the second round 60-30 against Riverside, and proceeded to win another round 55-20 against Perry. In bracket play, they lost to their teammates, the NC eighth grade B-team 25-70. The team rebounded from the loss to place third after beating Riverside, 80-30.
The eighth-grade B-team won the first round 65-10 against Jeff West, then lost the second round 35-60 against Riverside, and lastly won the third round 70-40 against Perry. In bracket play, the eighth-grade B-team had bragging rights as they defeated their classmates from the NC eighth-grade A-team 70-25 to move on to the championship. The eighth-grade B-team then went on to win a close match, 60-55 against Perry, putting them in first place.
“I thought our teammates were intellectually bold with their answers,” said Jayden Seitz.
The seventh grade NC scholars’ bowl teams had a successful meet at Perry-Lecompton. Both teams made it to the top seedings in bracket play.
The seventh grade A-team finished the first match against Jeff West with a 40-30 win, the second match against Riverside with a 60-30 win, and lastly won the Perry match 70-50. In bracket play, they went up against the Riverside B-team and won 60-20. Finally for the championship match the seventh grade A-team went head to head with Perry A-team and blew them away with a score of 50-20 to take first place.
The other seventh-grade team was also really successful placing third overall. The seventh-grade B-team kicked off the night losing against Jeff West 30-60. They turned it around the next match with Riverside winning 50-40, and finally, they defeated the Perry team, 80-30. In the first round of bracket play, they went against the Perry A-team and came up short losing 30-50. In the final match, their luck turned around and they won 50-10 against Riverside to score third overall.
“I thought we did really well and used our brains to the best of our abilities,” said Alex Burkitt.
The eighth-grade and seventh-grade teams both did really well in these meets. They have another regular season meet and then they will compete in the Big 7 League meet.
