Thunder Bash Participants

Nemaha Central Elementary and Middle School’s staff played the eighth-grade students in a game of basketball at the NC Bash on Friday, February 25, 2022. Seventh and eighth grade students had the option of reffing, announcing, keeping score, or being in the pep club. On the other hand, the eighth graders also had the option of playing against the teachers or being a coach. The coaches for the eighth grade team were Sebastian Randall and Cameron Strathman.

This year there were no special challenges, but it was still very fun! At halftime, the score was 18-14 with the eighth graders up. Following halftime, it got exciting with Bree Seitz and her son Jayden battling in a dance-off. Jayden took the victory after she ran out of moves to do.

Three minutes into the fourth quarter, students and teachers went out to the crowd for money to add to their scores. For each dollar collected a point was given to that team.  After the money was collected, the game resumed. With 30 seconds left in the game, all the eighth graders and some of the teachers ran to the floor. The eighth-grade students went on to stomp on the teachers with a 182-156 victory.

Kathryn Yunghans said, “The NC Bash was a fun event, and I am glad I was able to participate!”

Like normal, between quarters students could shoot a free throw for $1 to win a shirt, chocolate-covered pretzels, or a pop. All the money raised went to the NCEMS Parent Teacher Organization. The total amount raised for the PTO was $842.

“This is one of the teachers’ favorite events. We get a chance to compete against the eighth graders and have a great time,” said Lisa Holthaus.

Sebastian Randall said, “It felt great to dominate the teachers!”

It is so much fun for the teachers and students to challenge each other and the community enjoys coming to watch. Thanks for supporting the NCEMS PTO!
