The Nemaha Central Thunder traveled down Highway 75 to play the Royal Valley Panthers on Thursday, February 17. A total of four games were played, two eighth grade games and two seventh grade games.

In the eighth grade A-game, the opening quarter went by quickly as the Thunder managed to score 9 points while only allowing Royal Valley to score 4 points. The Thunder dominated in the second quarter scoring 11 more points than the Panthers. At the half, the Thunder were winning 22 to 6.

In the third quarter, Royal Valley scored 2 points while the Thunder continued their dismantlement of the Panthers’ defense. NC added another 16 points to their already impressive lead. Going into the fourth quarter, Nemaha Central was winning 38 to 8. The Panthers scored 5 points while the Thunder scored 8 in the fourth quarter making the final score 46-13 NC.

Jack Macke said, “We played a good game as a team.”

Only two quarters were played in the eighth-grade B-game. The NC team started the game red hot scoring 15 points while only giving up 3 points. In the second and final quarter of the short game, the Panthers came out blazing hot and scored 13 points. However, NC scored 9 points to beat Royal Valley 24-16.

To start the seventh grade A-game, the Thunder scored 12 points and allowed the Panthers only 6. The Thunder destroyed the Panthers in the second quarter only allowing them 2 points. NC on the other hand scored 13 points leaving the score at halftime 25-8 Thunder.

NC kept their offensive attack and outscored the Panthers 11 to 3 in the third quarter. The score at the conclusion of the quarter was 36-11. Similar to the other quarter, in the fourth quarter, NC added another 19 points whilst allowing the Panthers only 9. The score at the end of the game was 55-20 with another Thunder victory.

The Thunder scored 13 and shut out the Panthers in the first quarter of the seventh-grade B-team game. In the second quarter, the Panthers punched back and scored 11 points while holding the Thunder to only 5 points. The score at the end of the half was 18-11 with a Thunder lead.

The Thunder trampled the Panthers yet again in the third quarter by scoring 10 points and only allowing 2 for their opponents. The score was 28 to 13 with the Thunder on top. The fourth quarter was the closest quarter all night as Royal Valley scored 6 points and the Thunder scored 7 points. At the conclusion of the game, NC won 35-19.

Deryk Rosenberger said, “It was a good win against a good opponent.”

The Thunder boys basketball teams completed a clean sweep over the Panthers. Both the A-teams are still undefeated in league play heading into their last game of the season.
