On Saturday, February 12, the Nemaha Central seventh grade basketball team traveled to Sabetha to play in the tournament hosted by Sabetha. Nemaha Central's schedule had two games with the first being Atchison and then lastly against Marysville.

The game started at a slow pace and at the end of the six-minute quarter, Atchison had a lead of one point, 6-7. NC started the second quarter with some determination as they tacked on 11 points. Atchison came out after the first quarter and continued to play hard, but at the end of the second quarter, they only added 2 more points making the score at half 17-9. 

After the intermission, the teams got back at their ballgame. NC was playing great and by the end of the third quarter they put up 14 more points while they held Atchison to only adding 5 more points to their score. At the end of the third quarter, the score was 31-14. As NC kept their energy and rhythm going, they tacked on 14 more points. Atchison’s team put up several more shots but only got one bucket to fall. With a score of 45-16, NC got the win and was hoping to keep the energy moving into their next game.

Noah Broxterman said, “We played great and it was a well-deserved win.”

The NC seventh-grade basketball game against Marysville started soon after the eighth-grade game was over. The game started and NC grabbed a quick lead of 12-4 by the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was yet again another dominating quarter for NC as the Thunder put up 11 points and only allowed 2 points for Marysville. At the end of the second quarter, the score was 23-6.

After the break, NC carried over their energy and kept rolling through the game. Yet again NC added 11 points and allowed the Bulldogs only 5 points. At the end of the third quarter, NC had a big lead of 34-11. The fourth quarter started slowly for both teams but again NC added the most points with 8 points and Marysville only scored 1 point on a free throw. The game ended with a 42-12 victory for the Thunder.
