Kyler Ganstom Brings the Ball up the Court

The Nemaha Central Middle School basketball team took on the Hiawatha Red Hawks on Monday, February 14. This was the Thunder’s last home game of the season so they were determined to sweep Hiawatha.

The NC eighth grade A-team came out ready to fight and scored 11 points compared to Hiawatha’s 5. In the second quarter, the Thunder shut down the Red Hawks and ended the half up 23-6. The Thunder exited the locker room ready to extend their lead in the third quarter and scored 15 points to increase their lead to 38-8. The Thunder offense slowed down during the fourth quarter, but their defense stayed strong ending the game with a 41-11 win.

The NC eighth grade B-team followed the A-team's lead and ended the first quarter up 9-2. The Thunder continued to play hard in the second quarter and finished the half up 19-7. After halftime, both teams scoring slowed down and the Thunder ended the third quarter up 23-8. NC finished off the game strong winning against the Red Hawks 34-16.

“We dominated in every aspect of the game,” said Jordan Lewis.

The NC seventh grade A-team started the game out strong and played stellar defense ending the first quarter 14-0. The Thunder kept up the hard work and ended the first half up 30-0. NC’s defense continued to dominate, but the offense slowed down slightly ending the third quarter up 41-3. The Thunder team slowed down in the fourth quarter but ended the game with a victory of 44-12.

The NC seventh grade B-team came out ready to play and took an early lead 7-4. The Red Hawks came back in the second quarter to take the lead 9-13. The Thunder struggled to score in the third quarter and ended the quarter down 11-21. NC started a comeback in the fourth quarter but came up short losing 17-22.

“I thought it went well and we played hard,” said Hayden Rottinghaus.

Overall the Thunder had a great night winning three of the four games. Both A-teams hope to become undefeated league champs and both B-teams look to finish the season strong.
