The Nemaha Central Elementary and Middle School students took part in Spirit Week from January 31 through February 4. The NCMS cheerleaders, Kadance Henry, Chariss Fritz, and Hailee Daharsh, decorated the halls with streamers, balloons, and signs to get everyone in the Thunder spirit. The cheerleaders were also in charge of picking themes for each day of the week.
The themes for Spirit Week this year were: Pajama Day, Crazy Outfit Day, Dress for Dream Job Day, Thunder Thursday, and Favorite Sports Team Day. Depending on how many students dressed up in each class, it was calculated into a percentage to see which grade won at the end of the week.
The elementary students really stepped it up and many dressed up every day of Spirit Week. Winning the elementary classroom rivalry for being the best dressed on Thunder Thursday were Griffin Hiltgen, Judd Jones, Blakely Holthaus, Abigail Vandyke, Wyatt Stallbaumer, Ivory Ronnebaum, Adaysi Torres, Hadlee Burdiek, Kaleah Sanders, Jackson Stallbaumer, Emerson Novotny, Remi Bergman, Isabella Rohlmeier, Brooklyn Korber, Anna Jost, and Olivia Hermesch. n Each student received a candy bar for their school spirit.
Tyran Moeller said, “My favorite day this week was Pajama Day!”
Percentages of students dressed up were calculated in the middle school by grade level. The percentages for Pajama Day on Monday were sixth grade 49%, seventh grade 31%, and eighth grade with 40%. For Crazy Outfit Day on Tuesday, sixth grade had 61%, seventh grade 35%, and the eighth grade 54%. Wednesday was supposed to be Dress as Your Dream Job day but instead Nemaha Central had a snow day. For Thunder Day on Thursday, sixth grade was 63%, seventh grade was 42%, and eighth grade was 51%. On the final day for Favorite Sports Team Day, sixth grade was 57%, seventh was 60%, and eighth grade was 63%.
The middle school winners for Spirit Week on Thunder Day were Ali Lueger, Jolie Jones, and Wrigly Williams who received a candy bar for dressing with spirit.
“My favorite day this week was Friday because we got to dress up as our favorite sports team,” said Wrigly Williams.
The winners of spirit week were the sixth-grade class. The total results for Spirit Week were the sixth-grade class with 58%, the eighth-grade class with 52%, and seventh-grade with 42%.
