The Nemaha Central Elementary school held its annual Jump Rope For Heart event on Wednesday, January 26. Jump Rope for Heart is an event where first through fifth-grade students participate and try to raise a certain amount of money for the American Heart Association.
The event is held to encourage students to remain healthy, physically active, and to fundraise to help others in need. Students who raised a certain amount also received prizes for their courteous donations as a thank you from the American Heart Association. The goal for this year's event was to raise $11,000 as a school. NC fell a little short but still raised an impressive $8709.
During the event, there were stations set up throughout the gym for the students to participate in. The stations consisted of jump ropes, laps around the gym, a video, a resting time, another set of jumps, and the rock wall climb. At the resting station, students received apples and water on their break. Music was also played in the background for the students to have a more enjoyable experience as they continued throughout their activities.
“I liked eating apples the most, but I thought all of the activities were fun,” said Sam Fisher.
All and all, the students enjoyed their experience of getting some physical activity, raising money, receiving prizes, and the overall fact of knowing that they helped out someone else.
“I really liked the rock wall, and I think that it was fun,” said Aubrey Wood.
