NCMS Team Boxing out on a Freethrow

The Nemaha Central Middle School boys basketball team traveled to Riverside on Monday, January 10 for their second game of the season. The Thunder teams were looking to keep their winning streaks alive.

The Thunder eighth grade A-team came out ready in the first quarter and was in a fight for the lead as both teams were playing good basketball. The quarter ended with an 8-6 Thunder lead. The Cyclones bounced back in the second quarter, outscoring NC, and finished the quarter up 14-13. 

The Thunder came out of the locker room ready to play hard in the second half. The Thunder team accomplished their goal and played well to retake the lead 25-18 in the third quarter. The final quarter was a hard fight for both teams, but in the end, NC escaped with a 29-27 victory.

“I thought it certainly wasn’t our best game but we found a way to win,” said Jayden Seitz.

The NC eighth-grade B-team started off slowly and the quarter ended with a 4-3 Thunder lead. Both teams came out strong in the second quarter and by halftime, the score was tied 12-12. 

The second half started out well for both teams, but Riverside claimed the lead 22-18. In the fourth quarter, NC tried to reclaim the lead, but Riverside held on winning 30-24.

The NC seventh-grade A-team came out prepared to add another win to their record.  They jumped out in front of the Cyclones and by the end of the first half, they had a nice lead.  The halftime score was 24-7.

After halftime, the Thunder came out rejuvenated and added several more points to their score. The third quarter ended and the Thunder was leading 37-12. The scoring slowed down tremendously in the final quarter, but the Thunder captured the win, 42-14.

“It was a hard-fought game and very fun, but we pulled through and won,” said Mason Schultejans.

The Thunder seventh grade B-team started well and when the first quarter ended they were leading 10-2. The Cyclones bounced back taking the lead over the Thunder 14-12 at halftime.

The Thunder came out of the locker room motivated and regained the lead by a basket, 18-16. NC held on to their lead in the fourth quarter ending the close game with a victory, 23-21.

The Thunder had a great night of basketball winning most of their games. NC looks forward to the rest of the season and the undefeated teams hope to keep their winning streaks alive.
