Jade Macke dribbles basketball away from Riverside

Coming off a clean sweep against Perry, the Lady Thunder basketball team went on the road to take on Riverside on Thursday, October 21, 2021. There was only an 8A game and a 7A game because Riverside did not have enough players for B-team games.

The Riverside eighth-grade team dominated the Lady Thunder in the first quarter scoring 9 points to the Thunder’s only point, a free throw. Riverside stretched their lead in the second quarter by adding 8 more points while NC only made 4. The score at halftime found the Thunder down, 5-17.

NC closed the gap some in the third quarter, scoring 4 more points while Riverside only added 2 points to their score. The third quarter ended with NC down 9-13. The NC girls tried their hardest in the remaining quarter to make a comeback scoring 7 more points, but it was not enough to beat Riverside.  The  NC girls lost the game with a final score of 16-21

Jolie Jones said, “I am proud of what we were able to accomplish.”

The seventh-grade Thunder team was off to a great start against Riverside, outscoring them 12-0. NC did it again in the second quarter, demolishing Riverside by adding 12 more points to their score and only allowing Riverside to score 4. The halftime score was 24-4.

The Thunder team was hot again in the third quarter adding 11 more points while holding Riverside to a basket. The third quarter ended 35-6 with a Thunder lead. The Thunder girls finished the game in dominating style with a final score of 43-6.

Rachel Nordhus said, “I had lots of fun and I think everyone played well until the end of the game.”

The eighth grade has a record of 1-1 and the seventh graders are 2-0 on the season. The girls are working hard to improve their basketball skills and are hoping to do well the rest of this season.
