NCMS Undefeated Football Team Picture

The Thunder’s rival, the Sabetha Bluejays traveled to Seneca for the last game of the season on Thursday, October 14, 2021. Nemaha Central was looking to add another win to their undefeated season. Sabetha was looking to put a blemish on their rival’s season.

The Bluejays elected to receive so the Thunder started out kicking. Sabetha opened the game with a decent return followed by a quick 3 and out. The Thunder had a great punt return followed by a long touchdown pass down the sideline to put them on the board 8-0 with the 2-point conversion. NC stopped the Bluejays on the next series and regained possession of the ball. The Thunder team drove down the field and scored a second time. The Thunder defense forced a fumble and recovered allowing their offense to return to the field. NC scored fairly quickly bringing the first quarter to a close leading 24-0.

The Sabetha offense started the second quarter with a few good plays but ended up punting back to the Thunder. The Thunder offense continued to prove that they could not be stopped finding the endzone again making the score 32-0. Next, Sabetha returned the Thunder’s kick for a touchdown making the score 32-7. Following the Sabetha touchdown, NC drove down the field slowly in the next series of plays and scored another touchdown. The Thunder team kicked off to Sabetha and they couldn’t get the offense rolling and turned the ball over on downs. The Thunder offense scored one last time ending the half up 48-7.

The second half started out with a short return by the Thunder. NC drove down and scored a quick touchdown making the score 56-7. The Sabetha offense broke a long run, but got stopped around the 3-yard line. The Bluejay offense couldn’t find a way to score and decided to attempt a field goal. The Thunder blocked the field goal and took over on offense. On the next series, NC scored once again to make the score 62-7.  Sabetha had another long return after the kickoff and scored a very quick touchdown. The score was now 62-15. The Thunder’s offense continued to shine as they scored another touchdown to bring the quarter to a close 68-15. 

The fourth quarter began with one final touchdown drive by the Bluejay offense making the score 68-23. After that touchdown, neither offense could make their way to the endzone. The clock continued to run, and the game came to a close. The Thunder defeated their rival,  68-23.  

“We dominated a football game the way our coaches taught us,” said Layton Thomas.

NC ended the year with an undefeated 7-0 record and a Big 7 League title. The Thunder team had an exceptional season and look forward to football season next year!
