The Nemaha Central Middle School volleyball team played their county rivals, the Sabetha Bluejays on Monday, September 27, 2021. The volleyball girls fancied for another win. The Thunder girls came out ready to win and were hoping for a clean sweep on the night.
First up was the eighth-grade A-team. The NC girls came out and had lots of momentum in the first set capturing the win, 25-16. Keeping the ball rolling in the second set, their momentum was still up leading them to victory yet again, 25-10. In the third set, they lost their momentum and weren’t talking very much causing them to lose, 10-15. However, the team was still victorious over the Bluejays.
Next, it was the eighth-grade B-team’s turn to destroy the Bluejays. The Thunder team was pumped up and ready to get another win under their belts. In the first set, they came out on fire and played phenomenally well, winning, 25-20. The NC girls were determined to win in the second set and their determination led them to another win, 25-21. Ready to destroy them in the third set, the Thunder girls played great, winning, 15-10.
Chariss Fritz said, “It was so much fun. I expected nothing less of us than a win.”
For the seventh grade, the A-team was up first. The NC girls came out ready to win in the first set and played amazing, winning, 25-13. In the second set, they kept their momentum up and were successful winning 25-12. Destroying the Bluejays in the third set, the Thunder team played excellent winning with a score of 15-5.
“I think we did really well and it was the best game we played all season. If we play like that in the tournament, we will win it,” said Ali Jo Henry.
The seventh-grade B-team was up next and they were ready to roll. The NC girls had a lot of confidence coming into the first set, but it wasn’t enough losing a nail-biter, 19-25. Ready to get something going in the second set, the Thunder girls tried hard, just couldn’t get anything rolling losing another close one, 18-25. In the third set, the Thunder girls finally started to get more momentum and played better, winning, 15-10. Even though the seventh-grade B-team lost, it was to a tough opponent.
Overall, the Thunder volleyball team had a great night. They hope to dominate the other teams in the upcoming tournament and come home with the gold.
