The Nemaha Central Lady Thunder Team faced the Jeff West Tigers on Thursday, September 23. The games were held at the Jeff West Middle School gymnasium. The NC team showed up ready to destroy the Tigers!
The eighth grade A-team started the night battling the Jeff West Tigers and won the first set 25-23. The NC players put up a great fight, but with a lack of communication, the girls lost 20-25 in the second set. The third set was a nail-biter, and the Thunder team was short of getting the win, losing 15-13.
“We played well, but I wish we could have come out with the win,” said Ali Lueger.
The eighth-grade B-team was ready to roll as they were up next. The first set went really well as they won with a score of 25-18. The second set was close, but the NC team came up a couple of points short, losing 22-25. In the last set, the Thunder athletes went out with a bang winning 15-1 with Regan Sloop serving 13 in a row.
The seventh grade A-team was pumped to play, winning a very competitive first set 26-24. The Thunder team carried the momentum over to the second exciting set, winning 26-24. The teams went ahead and played the third set, unfortunately coming up short and losing it 4-15. The NC girls were still victorious over the Jeff West Tigers.
The seventh-grade B-team played shortly after the seventh-grade A-team and lost a close set, 18-25. The Thunder girls were able to bounce back from the first set loss to defeat the Tigers with a score of 25-9 in the second set. The final set of the match was a tight game but the Thunder athletes fell short losing 14-16.
Ella Huerter said, “We fought till the last second and succeeded!”
All-in-all, the Thunder athletes played well and worked hard for their points. The Thunder team had a tough rival in their league play but ended up winning half of their volleyball matches.
