The Nemaha Central Middle School football team started their season with a great football game on Thursday, Sept 2, 2021. NC’s football team consists of 12 eighth graders and 17 seventh graders. The managers are Graham Korber and Jeremy Rohlmeier. Coaches are Hadden Hiltgen, Schuyler Mayberry, and Micheal Ohlsen.
The NCMS football team played against Perry and swept them out of the park. With only one minute into the game, the Thunder team already scored and converted for 2 more points. The offense had a lot of scoring drives but many were brought back as a result of a penalty. That didn’t stop the Thunder team as they would eventually score on those drives. In the first quarter alone, NC scored 24 points.
The Thunder team started off pretty good in the second quarter. They were holding the defense off enough to run the ball into Perry’s end zone and score 12 points plus the two 2-point conversions to end the first half 40-0. The Thunder team did not let up in the second half as they scored a touchdown early and added the 2-point conversion. They kept moving the ball and eventually scored another touchdown and converted for 2 more points with a little bit under a minute left. By the end of the third quarter, they added 16 points to their score
The fourth quarter started with unsuccessful drives from both teams ending with a punt or a fumble. Many drives left both teams close to touchdowns, but nobody scored during the fourth quarter. So the score at the end of the game was 56-0, with a big Thunder victory.
“We had a strong win against a strong opponent,” said Carter Hajek.
”It was a great way to start off a promising season,” said Caleb Hynek.
