The Nemaha Central Middle School volleyball team traveled to Holton to take on the Wildcats on Thursday, September 17. The Thunder team knew going into the matches, that the Wildcats would put up a good fight so they needed to be ready to play.
In the eighth grade A-team match, the Thunder team played hard but just could not seem to get a lead. They lost the first game 19-25. The second game of the match ended with the same score of 19-25. The Thunder team did not let up as they tried to capture a win in the third game, but again, came up short losing to Holton, 12-15.
Cali Honeyman said, “ They are a really solid team, we had some really good hits and they dug a lot of them up.”
After the A-team match finished, the eighth grade B-team match was set to start. The B-team started off with a close game one win 25-19. In the second game, the Thunder girls were able to defeat the Wildcats by a larger margin with a score of 25-12. The third game of the match was another win for the Thunder athletes, 15-10.
The seventh grade A-team started out playing well and just came up short of getting the win 24-26. The second game of the match was not as close as the Thunder girls were defeated with a score of 17-25. The Thunder team did not give up but were unable to get the third game win with a close loss in the game 14-16.
The Thunder seventh grade B-team was the only team to come away from this road trip with a win. The girls played well and were able to come out victorious with the game scores in the match of 25-14, 25-19, and 15-9.
“Although we didn't come out with the win, we played very well. We had lots of fun, and learned to never give up,” said Ali Lueger.
The Thunder team is playing some competitive matches of volleyball and are improving their level of play. There were a lot of amazing pass, set, and hit plays in the matches. The Thunder girls are enjoying the season and look forward to meeting Holton again.
