The Nemaha Central Middle School football team kicked off their third game of the season on the road at Holton on Thursday, September 17. It was their first road game of the season and they looked to keep their undefeated record going as they faced one of the harder teams in the league.
The first quarter started with the Thunder kicking the ball to Holton. After a quick stop, the Thunder got the ball and put their first play of the game into the end zone for a touchdown. Holton responded by taking a long drive down to the end zone for a touchdown of their own. But they didn’t get the two point conversion and the score at the end of the first quarter was the Thunder 8 and Holton 6.
In the second quarter, the Thunder team was able to score one touchdown but missed the two point conversion, while holding Holton scoreless. The score at halftime was 14-6 with the Thunder leading.
At the start of the second half, the Thunder scored a quick touchdown making the score 20-6 after missing another two point conversion. Holton quickly responded with a touchdown of their own. On the two point conversion they threw the ball which was intercepted by Luis Lambrecht leaving the score 20-12. After the Thunder scored once again, the score was 26-12 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Thunder team was able to score yet again and made the two point conversion making the score 34-12. The Wildcats were making a drive towards the end of the game when the ball was stripped out by Carter Hajek who took a knee. The Thunder then ran down the clock by running the ball a few times. The Thunder pulled off yet another victory winning 34-12.
Luis Lambrecht said, “I was happy when I got the interception to help keep Holton from scoring and happy that the team was able to go out and get the win.”
Daniel Childress said, “We were able to go out against a strong team and get the job done.”
The Thunder look forward to their match-ups in the upcoming schedule and have a goal to finish the season undefeated. They will still have to go through a few strong teams before the end of the season.
