The Nemaha Central Middle School football team started their second game of the season by hosting Riverside on Thursday, September 10. The Thunder boys again came out looking for a win on their home field.
In the first quarter, the Thunder got out to an early start. NC kicked off and got an early defensive stop forcing Riverside to punt. The Thunder didn’t take long to score and by the end of the first quarter the score was 32-0 with the Thunder on top.
In the second quarter, the Thunder didn’t have as explosive of a start but they were still able to hold Riverside scoreless and put up another 16 points increasing the score to a 48-0 lead at halftime.
After halftime, the Thunder came out looking to put more on the scoreboard. Riverside kicked off and the Thunder started their drive. The Thunder strongly put up a quick touchdown making the score 56-0. On Riverside’s next drive, the Cyclones came out stronger than in the first half and after a 40-yard touchdown pass, they made it a 56-8 game as NC let up their first points of the season.
The fourth quarter was quick with a running clock and NC subbed in their handful of subs. Even though they didn’t score, they still held Riverside scoreless also. The game ended with a final score of 56-8. The teams stood on the hash marks and said good game and then the Thunder ran down to ring the victory bell.
Abram Keim said, “I think we played well, but there are still things we need to improve on and get better.”
Layton Thomas said, “We were able to play really well only allowing 8 points and being able to make them turn the ball over 3 times.”
