The Nemaha Central Elementary and Middle School students celebrated pi day with some activities on Tuesday, March 11, 2025. Students were ready to have some fun learning about the number pi, and of course, they couldn't wait for the assembly. At the assembly, several eighth grade students would receive a whipped cream pie to the face.
In the kindergarten room, students made Pi Day hats and played a memory game. In first grade, students made bracelets with beads using the digits of pi. Second grade painted with watercolors and cut out paper to make it look like a sunset and building. The third grade played a card game about the digits of pi. The fourth grade students watched a play put on by the eighth graders. Fifth grade used compasses to make a Pi project. Lastly, the sixth grade graphed the shape of a pie on a grid. Students from the middle school assisted with the pi day activities and they did some face paint with pi themes.
"Face painting was my favorite because I liked the colors," said Norah Niehues.
Finally, it was time for the assembly, and all the Thunder fans were getting excited, especially the eighth graders. Mrs. Bethany Griffith started the assembly by thanking everyone for doing a great job with the Pi Day activities and for coming to the assembly.
Next, there were four rounds of eighth graders waiting to take a whipped cream pie to the face. Since the fourth grade placed fourth in the coin war, members of the class came down to pie the first set of eighth graders. Those getting pied were Tate Edelman, Hudson Kuckelman, and Anna Jost.
Then, in the second round of eighth graders, members of the kindergarten class came down to pie the students since they finished third in the coin war. Eighth graders who received a messy pie in the face were Bryce Weber, Kaden Sperfslage, and Olivia Hermesch.
In the next round, members of the fifth grade class came down since they finished second in the coin war. The eighth graders who received a pie to the face were Kollin Wagner, Tyson Beebe-Dishong, and Jayla Nolte.
Then finally came the round which everyone would see who placed first in the coin war. The winners of the coin war were the second graders. The three lucky eighth graders who got pied were Piper Hiltgen, Alyssa Griffith, and Elvis Pop Cucul.
Treyton Branch said, “It was really funny to watch the eighth graders get pied in the face.”
This wrapped up the Pi Day activities and everyone enjoyed the day having fun learning about the number pi.
