On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, the Nemaha Central Scholars’ Bowl tournament team attended the Big East Scholars’ Bowl Tournament at Royal Valley. The teams at the meet were all the Big East League schools: Royal Valley, Nemaha Central, Sabetha, Rossville, Perry-Lecompton, Hiawatha, Holton, Riley County, Silver Lake, Jeff West, and St. Marys.
In the seventh grade division, Nemaha Central competed well and ended with a record of 4-1. They competed against Holton, Perry-Lecompton, Silver Lake, Rossville, and Riley County. In the last round, the NC team faced off against Holton for first place. Even though they lost the round, they placed second in the tournament, which was still a great place to be in.
Korbin Schmelzle said, “We did really well and came out in second place.
After the meet, the seventh grade went home because of the bad weather coming in and the eighth grade was ready to play.
In the eighth grade bracket, NC was working hard to get a win, but In the end, they went 3-2. They also played against Perry-Lecompton, Silver Lake, Roseville, Holton, and Riley County. Because NC lost two matches, they didn’t make it to the semifinal round. Even though they didn’t get to compete further, they still had some good wins to wrap up the season.
Brecken Kramer said, “It was a bummer that we didn’t get to the championship round but at least we played hard.”
