On January 31, 2025, the Nemaha Central Middle School girls wrestling team traveled to Marysville for their biggest meet before the Big East Tournament. The teams that attended were Sabetha, Concordia, Rock Creek, Royal Valley, Wamego, Clay Center, Rossville, Fort Riley, and Marysville.
The first to wrestle in eighth grade was Jillian Koch, who got zero pins leaving her at 0-2. Next to go was Claire Sourk, losing one of her three matches putting her at 2-1. Up next was Cora Langill, again winning all of her matches making her record 4-0. Next to step on the mat was Khloe Crevier who stepped off at 0-3. The next two up were Payson Rottinghaus and Evelyn Ba Coc. Rottinghaus lost her matches putting her at 0-3 and Ba Coc won 2 and lost 2 putting her at 2-2.
The first to wrestle in the seventh grade was Brooklyn Korber, who lost her matches leaving her at 0-2. Charlie Koch was next and she went 0-2. Next to go was Nikki Lambrecht, who lost both of hers going 0-2. Last to go was Ava Madrid who lost both of her matches leaving her at 0-2 for the night.
Brooklyn Korber said, "The only way to achieve the impossible is to believe it is possible."
Even though some of the girls didn't do as well as they would have liked, we can all agree that they are working hard to improve their wrestling moves.
