NCMS Wrestler

The Nemaha Central Middle School girls wrestling team traveled to Perry-Lecompton on Monday, February 10 for the Big East Wrestling Tournament. The teams that attended the tournament other than NC were Royal Valley, Silver Lake, Sabetha, Holton, Rossville, Jeff West, Riley County, and Perry-Lecompton. 

The NC girls were determined to make their last meet the best. In the eighth grade at 99 pounds, Cora Langill went 3-0 winning all her matches; at 94 pounds, Claire Sourk went 2-0; at 125 pounds, Payson Rottinghaus went 0-2; at 119 pounds, Khloe Crevier went 0-2; at 84 pounds, Jillian Koch went 0-2; and lastly at 141 pounds, Evelyn Ba Coc went 1-3.

Payson Rottinghaus said, “We wrestled really well and several people placed.”

The seventh grade results were at 79 pounds, Charlie Koch went 2-0; at 82 pounds, Brooklyn Korber went 0-2; at 112 pounds, Nikki Lambrecht went 0-2; and lastly, at 125 pounds, Ava Madrid went 1-2. 

Nikki Lambrecht said, ‘We did pretty good overall, and we had a great season.”

Several wrestlers placed in the Big East Tournament. Charlie Koch placed first in the 80-pound weight class, Claire Sourk placed first in the 95-pound weight class, Cora Langill placed first in the 100-pound weight class, and lastly, Brooklyn Korber and Jillian Koch placed third in the 85-pound weight class. 

These girls wrestled some challenging opponents and worked hard. They ended the season with a lot of knowledge and learned several new skills in wrestling.
