The Nemaha Central staff played the eighth grade students in the 6th Annual NC Bash on Friday, February 28. The sixth and seventh grade students could also get involved by announcing, officiating, keeping score, or taking part in the pep club at the NC Bash.
The players for the eighth graders were: Dalton “Big D” Childress, Abe “Big Abe” Hilbert, Josh “Normal Ned” Gonzalez, Cooper “Bronny” Scott, Reid “Reido” McKee, Miles “My My” Carpenter, Holden “The Water Buffalo” Bass, Maggie “Roast Beef” Koch, Kate “Ka Tae” Heinen, Anna “Bossy Sauce” Hermesch, Mya “Hottie McShottie” Ganstrom, Kylee “Kiwi” Sperfslage, Ashlyn “Ash Cash” Gudenkauf, and Makenna “Ginger Giant” Sloop. The coaches for the eighth grade were: Madi “Coach M-Dog” Scott, Hailey “Coach H-Dog” Nordhus, Isabelle “Coach Dubz” Evans, and Sam “Coach Clutz” Holthaus.
The players for the staff were: Cory “Old Man” Bass, Carissa “Short Stack” Williams, Melinda “Mrs. Jones” Jones, Hadden “The Bald Eagle” Hiltgen, Terrance “Terry the Science Fairy” Stueve, Bethany “Keep, Change, Flip-It” Griffith, Angie “The Enforcer” Bass, Bree “Breezy Bree” Seitz, Jessica “Cookin Up Threes” Koch, and Julie “Lay Up” Lueger.
This year there were a few changes to the NC Bash. In the 2nd quarter, for the first 3 minutes no dribbling was the challenge. Then in the last 3 minutes of the 2nd quarter they had to shoot with their non-dominant hand. In the 4th quarter, if you made a shot in the jump circle your team scored 50 points, if you made a shot behind the grey line your team scored 25 points. There was also a dance battle between the teachers and the students. They danced to “Old Town Road '' and judges decided who the crowd liked better. The judges were Valerie Edelman, Adam Kuckelman, and Margie Calderwood. Whichever team did the best received 20 points to be added to their team’s score. The teachers won the dance battle.
However, some things stayed the same. As usual, between the quarters, students shot free throws to win a pop. It was $1.00 per shot. Players and teachers went around the crowd and were given money during one of the quarter breaks. The amount of money made for each side was added to their score. All of the proceeds went to the NCEMS Parent/Teacher Organization.
“It was a lot of fun cheering for the eighth graders and storming the court at the end,” said Madi Heiman.
“It was fun,” said John Langill.
It’s always a lot of fun for the teachers, players, students, and community. Thanks for supporting the NCEMS PTO!
