It’s pep rally time at Nemaha Central Elementary and Middle School. The pep rally took place on Thursday, February 6, 2025, in the school gymnasium. The cheerleaders kicked off the pep rally by doing a cheer to get the Thunder spirit going.
Dr. Beck gave a welcome and handed the microphone off to the boys' basketball coaches. The boys' basketball team came out while the coaches gave some information on how their season had been going. Next, the girls’ wrestling team was recognized, The wrestlers were given pins for however many pins they had gotten so far this wrestling season.
Following the introduction of teams, the cheerleaders organized a fun game called Hungry, Hungry Hippo. Four eighth-grade and four seventh-grade boys’ basketball team members started the game off. After the boys finished, the cheerleaders had the assigned wrestlers come out, and then the scholars’ bowl members followed. Once the rounds were complete they brought all the winners back for a final match. The winning team was the two eighth-grade boys from the scholars bowl team.
Finally, the students were ready for the annual spirit stick competition. For this pep rally, the judges were Mr. Jesse Helm and Mrs. Heather Sullivan. The cheerleaders started the chant and all grades shouted as loud as they could making it hard to choose the grade with the most spirit. The judges decided that fourth grade was the loudest and they got to take the spirit stick with them.
Kasen Lockheart said, “It felt good to win the spirit stick."
The cheerleaders led the student body out with cheers and formed a tunnel for the students to go through.
Even though the pep rally ended, the cheerleaders were still busy getting ready for their halftime performance. They performed their routine during the halftime of the eighth-grade B-team game. The song they picked for their performance was “Believer” by the Imagine Dragons. The cheerleaders had been practicing hard and it showed when they stepped on the court for their routine.
Olivia Hermesch said, “I think we did great even though we choreographed it ourselves. I think we were very creative."
