Nemaha Central's Middle School students participated in a Career Fair on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. School counselor Sarah Akin and senior Hallie Holthaus helped organize this event together. Holthaus assisted with the event as part of her senior project.
The students started the morning by observing Career and Technical Education (CTE) booths presented by high school students. These booths gave them some information on career pathways and classes they could take at the high school level. After visiting the booths, students returned to the classrooms for the guest presentation sessions.
Brecken Kramer said, “It was fun to learn about different careers you can have and classes you can take during high school to help advance our future career."
The guest speakers this year were: Brenda Elier, Brent Haverkamp, Phylicia Baker, Ethan Stewart, Cameron Alderfer, and Kylee Koch from Ag Partners, chiropractor Brett Lukert, interpreter Jennifer Calderwood, flight attendant Michelle Gerog, Callie Holthaus from WIBW, and Amber and Ryan Lierz from Limestone Lodge.
During the Ag Partner presentation, the guests talked about their machinery, the chemicals used, and the drones used to view their fields. Chiropractor Brett Lukert talked about how important it is to eat well, get good sleep, exercise, and have correct posture to improve your everyday health, Jennifer Calderwood, an interpreter, shared with the students some of her amazing stories of the people she has helped, and her favorite word to sign.
Flight attendant Michelle Gerog showed students a life jacket and explained how to use it in an emergency on a plane, along with the books she studied to become a flight attendant, pins she’s gained over the years, and most importantly she shared some pretzels with the students. Callie Holthaus, from WIBW, talked to the students about some of her on-the-job experiences. One of them was that she went to the Chiefs parade last year for some interviews and was able to tell us her perspective on the event. Amber and Ryan Lierz from Limestone Lodge talked about the work involved in constructing and managing rental properties and the benefits of having property for extra income.
Remi Bergman said, “I think the Career Fair went well and they had some amazing people come in."
