Kaden Sperfslage is taking the shot for the Thunder

The Nemaha Central Middle School boy's basketball team traveled to Rossville on Thursday, January 23, 2025.  

In the eighth-grade A-team game, the NC boys battled the Bulldawgs in the first quarter but came up just short of a lead, ending the quarter with a score of 6-7. In the second quarter, both teams scored 4 points to end the half 10-11 in favor of the Bulldawgs.

The Thunder added a few points to the third quarter score,  and so did the Bulldawgs. At the end of the third quarter, the score was 15-20. The NC boys pushed to score 7 points in the last quarter, while the Bulldawgs scored 10. The Thunder A-team ended the game with a loss of 22-30.

Kollin Wagner said, “We did play well keeping it close by 8 points, but we could play harder.” 

The eighth-grade B-team started slowly with a first quarter score of 1-4 in favor of the Bulldawgs. The Thunder boys fought back in the second quarter scoring 3 points, although the Bulldawgs scored 9 points. At halftime, the score was 4-13.

In the third quarter, the Thunder boys struggled to get their offense going and by the end, they were down 5-19. In the last quarter, the NC B-team fought hard but unfortunately lost with a score of 11-28.

The seventh grade A-team game started badly in the first quarter with a score of 6-17. In the second quarter, the NC boys battled by scoring 6 whereas the Bulldawgs scored 5. The quarter ended with a score of 12-22.

In the third quarter, the NC boys struggled on defense allowing several points. The Bulldwags were still leading at the end of the quarter 19-34. The Thunder boys finished the fourth quarter strong, by outscoring their opponents, but lost the game 28-42.

The last game was the seventh-grade B-team. In the first quarter, the NC boys started pretty well, but the Bulldawgs reacted to it and tied the score 7-7. During the second quarter, the Thunder boys were so close, but the Bulldawgs were up by one point at the half with a score of 15-16. 

The two teams battled in the third quarter for the lead, but the Thunder found themselves trailing at the end, 21-23. In the last quarter, the intensity was high, but the game was not decided as it ended with a tie, 25-25.     In overtime, the NC boys played hard and outscored the Bulldawgs 38-33 to get the victory.

 Kristian DeLosRios said, “We played hard, and that’s what won us the game.”

It was a rough night for the basketball boys, but they are going to work hard to prepare for the upcoming games.
