NC Wrestler

The Nemaha Central Middle School girls wrestling team officially kicked off their season on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Holton High School's gymnasium. The team comprises 11 girls, seven from the eighth grade and four from the seventh grade. The team is coached by Maurice Hilbert and Kathy Childress.

The wrestlers were prepared and ready to face any challenge their opponents might present. First up for the eighth graders was Jillian Koch, who weighed in at 85 lbs. She went 1-1. She was followed by Claire Sourk, competing at 95 lbs with a record of 2-1. Cora Langill, weighing 100 lbs, stepped onto the mat and achieved an easy 2-0 victory. Khloe Crevier, at 120 lbs, came next with a record of 1-2. Payson Rottinghaus, weighing 125 lbs, also recorded a 1-2 outcome. Evelyn BaCoc wrestled at 140 lbs and had a stellar performance, finishing the night 3-0. Finally, Emma Tangeman, weighing in at 240 lbs, faced challenges and ended with a record of 0-2.

Cora Langill said, "There are way more wrestlers on our team this year and it was nice seeing everyone support each other."

Among the seventh graders, Charlie Koch at 80 lbs began the matches but ended with a 0-2 record. Brooklyn Korber, weighing the same, unfortunately also lost both of her matches, finishing 0-2 for the night. Nikki Lambrecht, at 112 lbs, managed a win and a loss, wrapping up her night at 1-1. The final seventh grader to compete was Ava Madrid, who impressively won both of her matches, achieving a 2-0 record.

Overall, the team put forth commendable efforts at their first wrestling meet, and there is excitement as everyone eagerly anticipates their next competition.
