The Nemaha Central Middle School boys basketball team played their second game of the season on Thursday, January 9 at the NCHS gymnasium. They played against Silver Lake; this was the B-teams' first game.
The eighth grade A-team game did not start well for the Thunder. The Thunder could not hit many shots in the first quarter while the Eagles scored several. The quarter ended with the Thunder trailing 3-14. In the second quarter, the Thunder did not hit any shots but the Eagles hit many. The quarter ended with the Thunder way behind 3-31.
After halftime, the Thunder picked up their level of play. In the third quarter, they held the Eagles to fewer points. The Thunder team hit some shots, and the quarter ended with the Thunder trailing 9-38. The Thunder made a few shots in the last quarter, as in the third quarter, but the Eagles outscored them again. The quarter ended with the Thunder losing 13-47.
The eighth-grade B-team game started similarly to the A-team game. The Thunder did not make any shots in the first quarter, while the Eagles scored several. The quarter ended with the Thunder behind 0-9. The Thunder scored 2 points in the second quarter and the Eagles scored 10, putting them up 2-19.
The Thunder came out in the third quarter and made no shots. The Eagles scored 10 points. The quarter ended with the Thunder behind 2-29. Then, in the fourth quarter, the Thunder held the Eagles back they only scored 4 points and the Thunder scored 2 points. The game's final score was 4-33, a tough game for the Thunder.
Kendrick Maley said, "We tried our hardest, but we did not win."
The seventh-grade A-team game did not start well for the Thunder. The Thunder hit some shots, while the Eagles hit many. The quarter ended with the Thunder behind 2-16. The second quarter started and went a lot like the first quarter. The Thunder scored a few points, and the Eagles scored several more. The quarter ended with the Thunder behind 5-29.
After halftime, the Thunder picked up their level of play. The third quarter began and the Thunder made several shots while holding the Eagles' scoring down a little. However, the Thunder was still trailing 14-37. In the fourth quarter, the Thunder team was not able to cut the Eagles' lead. The game ended with the Eagles winning by a score of 20-45.
Levi Holthaus said, "We played hard, but in the end, we didn't win."
In the seventh-grade B-team game, the Thunder only scored 4 points while the Eagles scored 11. In the second quarter, the Thunder scored several points, but not enough to catch up to the Eagles. The quarter ended with the Eagles ahead 18-28.
After halftime, the Eagles continued to add points to their score, while the Thunder only added 2 points. The third quarter ended 20-35. The Thunder team was able to add 5 more points to their score, but it wasn't enough to cut the Eagles' lead. The game ended with another loss for the Thunder, 25-41.
