The Nemaha Central seventh grade basketball team played in a tournament at the Sabetha High School against the Atchison Braves and the Marysville Bulldogs. They played against the teams on Saturday, February 8. They played against two tough teams that morning.
It was the first quarter against Atchison with NC having a terrible time getting their offensive and defensive game going. NC scored 1 point while Atchison took the lead with 20. The second quarter was a better quarter for NC as they scored 7, however, Atchison scored 22. At the end of the half, it was 8-42 with Atchison in the lead.
“We might have played bad, but we played our best,” said Dayton Nelson.
In the third quarter, NC was held to zero points while Atchison scored another 22. In the last quarter, NC only scored 4 while Atchison was stopped at 17. The ending score was 12-81 with Atchison taking the win.
The start of NC’s second game was a good quarter for the offense. NC scored 7 points while Marysville took the lead with 13. It was the second quarter with NC scoring 4 while Marysville was held at 6. The halftime score was 11-19 with Marysville in the lead.
After halftime, NC came out with a bad quarter all together scoring nothing while Marysville scored 6. In the last quarter, NC scored 4 points while Marysville was held at 3. The final score was 15-28 with Marysville taking the win.
“We fought hard but in the end, it wasn’t enough,” said Kaden Peterson.
