The Nemaha Central Middle School held a Can the Teacher event on Tuesday, November 26. Can the Teacher is an event where the sixth through eighth graders bring in nonperishable items for the Nemaha County food bank. In exchange, the day was filled with events other than schoolwork.
The goal the students needed to reach was 1400 nonperishable items. Not only did the students hit the goal, they surpassed it! The students started the day out by watching the following movies: Mall Cop, Christmas With The Kranks, Home Alone 1, Home Alone 2, and Christmas Chronicles. The movies were projected in the classrooms, the students could bring drinks and snacks to the movies.
“My favorite part was bringing in the cans,” said Samuel Tangeman.
The students also attended Cali Honeyman's senior project event, "Pancakes for a Purpose." All students were able to partake in the event and could purchase pancakes to help support her project.
Later in the morning, students also were divided into 10 teams for a dodgeball event. After burning off some energy, the students returned to the classroom for the rest of the movie.
"Can the Teacher was a really fun event and I am glad we passed the goal,” said Claire Sourk.
