The last girls' basketball of the season

The Nemaha Central Middle School girls basketball team played against Sabetha on Thursday, December 5, 2024. It was the NC basketball girls' last regular games of the season.

In the eighth grade A-team game, the NC girls started amazing in the first quarter scoring 10 points and holding the Bluejays to 0. The Thunder girls were on fire and just kept making the shots! During the second quarter, the Thunder girls were doing well. The quarter ended 18-2 with the Thunder leading.

The Thunder added a few points to their score in the third quarter, but so did the Bluejays.  At the end of the quarter, the score was 23-6. During the last quarter, the Thunder girls scored 13 points, while the Bluejays scored 5. The Thunder A-team ended the game with a win 36-11.

Piper Hiltgen said, “We played well and played good defense.”

The NC eighth-grade B-team did well in the first quarter coming away with a two-point lead, 7-5. NC increased its lead in the second quarter while holding the Bluejays to the 5 points from the first quarter. At halftime, the score was 13-5.

In the third quarter, the Thunder girls struggled some but kept their lead with a score of 15-12. The last quarter was more intense because both teams were scoring several baskets. The Thunder girls ended up with the win with a score of 24-19.

The Thunder seventh grade A-team got off to a great start scoring 13 points and only giving up 2. In the second quarter, the Thunder girls continued to do well and the halftime score was 20-5. 

In the third quarter, the Thunder girls kept scoring and their defense was solid.  The quarter ended with a Thunder lead, 27-9. The Thunder girls finished strong in the fourth quarter to get the win 35-13. The Thunder girls picked up another win against the Bluejays.

Maggie Sudbeck said, “We played well and we all played good offense.”

The last game was the seventh-grade B-team game. In the first quarter, the Thunder girls had a slow start only scoring 3 points, while the Bluejays had 6. During the second quarter, the Thunder girls decided to flip that around by doing a lot better and the quarter ended with a score of 16-10.

In the third quarter, the Thunder girls were doing good by staying ahead and the score was 21-14. The NC girls did great keeping the lead. In the last quarter, things didn’t go well and they lost by one point, 23-24

It was a great night for the last regular season games with most of the Thunder teams winning.
