The Nemaha Central Middle School basketball girls stepped onto their home court for the last time this season to take on Perry-Lecompton on Monday, November 25, 2024. The girls were excited to play on their home court one more time before the league tournament.
The eighth grade A-team took the court, ready to take on the Kaws. The NC girls fought hard in the first quarter to secure a small lead of 6-2. Both teams scored 7 points in the second quarter leaving NC ahead 13-9.
During the third quarter, the girls worked together to keep their lead. Neither team scored much in the quarter and the Thunder was winning, 16-11. Both teams battled it out in the fourth quarter but NC won the game 18-15. The girls were glad to have won against the Kaws.
“We played hard throughout the evening, and it was fun to get more wins in the book!” said Anna Jost, eighth grade.
The eighth grade B-team was up after the completion of the A-team game. To start the game, Perry took the lead 4-10. The NC girls scored 4 points in the second quarter with Perry scoring 6 leaving the game 8-16 at halftime with the Kaws in the lead.
NC was unable to score much in the third quarter leaving the Kaws ahead 10-23. In the fourth quarter, NC scored 4 points with Perry scoring 8. Despite their best efforts NC lost 14-31.
The seventh grade A-team was ready to play on their home court. During the first quarter, the girls fought to keep Perry from scoring. They were able to do that while scoring 4 points of their own to take the lead 4-0. NC was able to increase their lead in the second quarter and the halftime score was 12-2.
In the third quarter, NC was able to increase their lead and the quarter ended, 18-4. In the final quarter, both teams only scored 2 points giving NC the win, 20-6. The girls were happy to get another win.
"It was a good game and I didn't expect us to win but we did and everyone played well," said Emmie Monier, seventh grade.
Following the seventh grade A-team, the seventh grade B-team took the court to play a 2 quarter game. The teams battled it out in the first quarter and the score was tied 4-4. In the second quarter, the NC girls fired up their offense, to get the win, 14-6.
The NC basketball team was happy to have won three out of four of their games. As the season approaches its end, the girls will continue to practice for their Big East Tournament.
