The Nemaha Central Middle School basketball girls played Riley County at home on Monday, November 11, 2024. There was a seventh grade A-team, an eighth grade A-team, and a combined seventh and eighth grade B-team game.

The eighth grade A-team played the first game of the night. In the first quarter, NC had a slow start only scoring 1 point while Riley County scored 8. The second quarter was a little better for the Thunder, but they were still trailing the Falcons 5-18 by halftime.

The third quarter was a slow quarter for the Thunder only scoring 1 point, while Riley County scored 7. The third quarter ended 6-25. NC scored a few more points in the fourth quarter, but Riley County still came out on top with a score of 12-34.

Zoey Streeter stated, “We tried our best but didn’t end up winning.”

The seventh grade A-team played next. NC had a slow start in the first half. They scored no points during the first quarter, while Riley County scored 2. In the second quarter, the Falcons increased their lead as the first half ended with a score of 2-14.

NC played well during the third quarter and scored 8 points, while Riley County only scored 5. NC was close during the last quarter but only scored 2 points while Riley County scored 5. The Falcons won the game with a score of 12-24.

The combined seventh and eighth grade B-team game was played last. Karla Deters started the game with a tip-off. The first half was slow with NC only scoring 2 points and Riley County scoring 8. In the second quarter, the Thunder increased their score by 4, but the Falcons were still in the lead with a score of 6-10.

During the third quarter, both NC and Riley County scored 2 points. NC couldn't get the offense going in the fourth quarter and did not score, but Riley County managed to score 8. The Thunder dropped the last game of the night with a score of 8-20.

“Even though we lost, we tried our best,” said Brooklyn Korber.

The girls tried hard and played well. Even though they didn't win any of the games, they are ready to face the next team.
