The Nemaha Central Elementary and Middle School students participated in Spirit Week from January 27- January 30. The hallways were decorated by the Nemaha Central Middle School cheerleaders, Sabina DeBuen and Feryn Feldkamp and the cheer sponsor, Deb Schmitz. They were also in charge of setting the themes for each day of Spirit Week.
The themes for Spirit Week this year were: Pajama Day, Americana Day, Crazy Dress Day, NC Spirit Day, and Chief Mania Day. The classes were encouraged to dress up for Spirit Week and percentages were calculated based on the participation of the class. You must have three items related to the theme to be counted as dressed up for the day.
The elementary students really went all out dressing up each day of spirit week. Winning the elementary classroom competitions were: Isabelle Bletscher, Brice Wullschleger, Elle Burkitt, Landry Hiltgen, Brooklyn Korber, Abbott Sullivan, Piper Hiltgen, Alyvia Sudbeck, Alexis Beebe-Dishong, Wrigly Williams, Bailey Snyder, Maggie Jones, McKenzie Rottinghaus, and Conner Lueger.
The percentages on Monday for Pajama Day were: sixth grade 66%, seventh grade 41%, and eighth grade 42%; Tuesday for Americana Day were: sixth grade 75%, seventh grade 31%, and eighth grade 29%; Wednesday for Crazy Dress Day were: sixth grade 75%, seventh grade 47%, and eighth grade 61%; Thursday for NC Spirit Day were: sixth grade 69%, seventh grade 47%, and eighth grade 68%; and Friday for Chief Mania Day were: sixth grade 75%, seventh grade 28%, and eighth grade 42%.
“It was fun dressing up,” said Jolie Jones.
The winners of Spirit Week were the sixth grade class. The total results for Spirit Week were the sixth grade class with 72%, the eighth grade class with 48%, and the seventh grade class with 38%.
Winning the individual spirit day contest in the middle school were 3 sixth graders. They were Jade Macke, Jack Macke, and Layton Thomas.
