The Nemaha Central Middle School girls basketball team took on the Rossville Bulldawgs on Monday, November 18, 2024. The girls were super excited to get going on the game, knowing the Thunder fans would show up and support them. This was also their second to last home game, and they were ready to get another win at home. They played all the games in the Thunder Dome.
The Thunder eighth grade A-team played first to kick the night off. The Thunder started off playing tough, but couldn’t pull ahead in the first quarter, trailing with a score of 4-6. In the second quarter, the Thunder wanted to pull ahead before halftime. They did just that and went into halftime with the lead, 16-12.
The third quarter was a little nerve-wracking with both teams playing some tough defense. The Thunder only scored two points in the third quarter while Rossville scored four. The score was 18-18 going into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Thunder was ready to compete. It was a super exciting quarter and the Thunder came out on top with a final score of 23-20.
After the Thunder eighth grade A-team won, the seventh grade A-team was hoping to do the same. The first quarter wasn’t what they hoped for with the Bulldawgs coming out on top with a score of 4-7. The Thunder was ready to bounce back in the second quarter and pull ahead. The Thunder played well in the quarter to get the lead at halftime with a score of 14-10.
The Thunder was hoping to keep the lead throughout the rest of the game. In the third quarter they battled hard, and increased their lead, as the quarter ended 27-14. In the last quarter, the Thunder was getting excited to pull out the win, but stayed focused and played tough. The final for the seventh grade A-team game was 37-14, with another Thunder victory.
“We all did really good and I had fun playing with my friends,” said Tatum Snyder, seventh grade.
Finally, the Thunder B-team was getting their turn to play. This was a combination of eighth graders and seventh graders. In the first quarter, the Thunder came out playing amazing and by the end of the quarter, they were winning 6-2. The Thunder were ready to keep the same intensity for the second quarter, however, they were down going into halftime with a score of 8-9.
The Thunder team was ready to battle in the second half and they did just that going up 12-9 by the end of the third quarter. The Thunder held the Bulldawgs scoreless in the second half and ended the game with a score of 18-9.
“I think we did great because we hustled and did what we had to do,” said Evelyn Ba Coc, eighth grade.
The Thunder girls had a very successful night. They were very excited that all teams got a win and were ready to get back to practice and get prepared for their next game.
