NCES Students Enjoy Jump Rope for Heart

The Nemaha Central Elementary students participated in Jump Rope for Heart, on Wednesday, January 29. The students were asked to raise money and bring it in to reach an NCES goal of $10,000. With the money students raised, they would get a small prize. The money earned would be sent to a child with a heart issue, and this year the money was sent to a child named Finn. The students did a phenomenal job raising $10,530.74 and beating the school record. Since the students reached their goal, they will get to see a teacher doing a makeup tutorial on Cory Bass himself.

Every year there are around four stations that each grade switches between about every fifteen minutes, while listening to music played by Dallas Wood. There were two jump rope stations where you can jump individually or with a group. Another station was a walking and eating apples station. At that station you could walk with friends and eat apples in the bleachers. The other two stations were a rock wall station and a fitness video. Students could climb the rock wall and try to get to the middle of it.  At the fitness video station, the students watch a video and do the fitness moves shown.

“Jump roping was fun on both ends!” said Ethan Jost.

Next up on the agenda, the students who donated at least $5 are entered in a drawing to earn prizes. Some of the prizes included popcorn, NC socks, candy, and much more. After the prize drawings, there was a jump rope competition for every grade starting in first grade all the way to fifth grade. The winner of the jump rope competition gets to keep the lucky jump rope they were using.  Every year the students have a good time, look forward to this event, and raise lots of money.

“It was fun and amazing” said Lilian Deters.
