The Nemaha Central Middle School wrestling team traveled to Doniphan West School on Saturday, November 2, 2024. They faced off against athletes from Onaga, Doniphan West, Hiawatha, Oskaloosa, Effingham, Atchison, Pleasant Ridge, and Riverside. Andrew Beck and Mo Hilbert coach the NC team.  The team consists of 4 eighth graders and 1 seventh grader from NC, 2 seventh graders from SPPS, and 1 home-schooled seventh grader.

The seventh graders learned a lot from practices and were going to apply their skills to the first meet. At 85 pounds, Rykeir Feldkamp went 0-3; at 100 pounds, Evan Bletscher went 0-1; at 141 pounds, Noah Keim went 3-1; finally, at 150 pounds, Bentin Deters went 1-2.

Evan Bletscher said, “The competition was good. We might not have won all of them, but we shouldn’t hang our heads.”

The eighth graders did well, winning several matches. Up first at 80 pounds, Tyson Beebe-Dishong went 2-1; at 134 pounds, Jonathan Gordon went 3-1; then at 141 pounds, Tate Edelman went 4-0; finally, at 215 pounds, Kollin Wagner went 4-1.

Tyson Beebe-Dishong said, “It was fun and we all fought hard to win.”

In all, the wrestlers learned a lot from their first wrestling meet of the season.
