The Nemaha Central Middle School football team played against Jeff West on Thursday, October 10, 2024. NC has had a rough season, not winning a game, but are hoping to win their last two games.
In the first quarter, the Tigers started with the ball. They made it down the field but NC was able to stop them. A few plays later, the Thunder had to punt the ball. NC punted the ball but the punt returner dropped it and the Thunder team was able to regain possession. Sadly, the Thunder turned the ball over on downs again. The Tigers were able to score a touchdown on their next possession, but couldn’t convert for two points. NC played a few more downs and the first quarter ended 0-6.
In the second quarter, the Thunder slowly made it down the field but turned over the ball on downs. Both teams turned over the ball a few times, but with a few minutes left in the half, the Tigers had something going and made another touchdown. They successfully made the two-point conversion, taking a 0-14 halftime lead.
NC received the ball in the third quarter but again turned the ball over on downs. Jeff West scored a touchdown just a few plays later and made the two-point conversion. NC retaliated by getting a touchdown of their own but couldn’t make the two-point conversion. The third quarter ended with the Thunder trailing, 6-22.
The fourth quarter was not a good one for the Thunder team. In just a few plays into the quarter, the Tigers scored a touchdown but couldn't connect on the two-point conversion. NC got the ball back but the Tigers picked it off and ran it in for another touchdown. NC couldn’t stop them from getting the two-point conversion. The Thunder team struggled to get the offense going and after a few plays, they fumbled the ball and couldn’t get on top of it. On this possession, Jeff West ran it in for a touchdown but didn't make the two-point conversion. The game ended and the Thunder team was defeated, 6-42.
Hudson Kuckelman said, “We had a lot of mental mistakes at first but they progressed as the game went on.”
Kristian DeLosRios said, “We had a lot of little mistakes that led to bigger mistakes.”
The Thunder boys are hoping to win their last game of the season.
