The Nemaha Central Middle School volleyball team traveled to Riley County for another game on Thursday, October 3, 2024. Since they entered a new league this year, the seventh and eighth grade teams were nervous because they had never played against Riley County.
The Thunder’s eighth grade B-team was all warmed up and ready to start the match. Their first set was off to an amazing start and it ended with a Thunder victory, 25-22. The second set didn’t go well as the Thunder lost, 13-25. Their third and final set was another Thunder loss with a score of 4-15.
After the eighth grade B-team played, the A-team stepped onto the court. The first set could have been better but ended with a score of 17-25. The athletes knew they needed to work harder so they began with a lead in their second set. Eventually, it wasn’t enough after the back-and-forth points. The final score of that set was 23-25. The third set was a bit better but the Thunder still lost, 11-15.
“We started not so great but as the night went on we talked, hustled, and played better,” said eighth grader Anna Jost.
NC's seventh grade A-team was filled with mixed emotions as they stepped onto the court. They started their match and won with a score of 25-12. In their second set, the Thunder came out on top again, 25-14. Finally, the third set was a little closer, but they finally pulled it together and won 15-13.
“We worked as a team and pulled out the win,” commented Aubrey Wood, seventh grade.
The seventh grade B-team walked onto the court after the A-team played. The first set was challenging and the Thunder ended up losing 17-25. They didn’t do as well in the second set losing, 11-25. Their last set was tough also and resulted in a loss, 9-15.
The season is winding down and each match is a chance to improve. The volleyball teams are having fun and getting ready for the Big East Tournament.
