The Thunder played two teams on Monday, September 30, 2024. The teams were Royal Valley and Saints Peter and Paul School. This was Nemaha Central’s fourth from the last game of the season.
The eighth grade B-team beat Royal Valley 25-15 in the night's first set. NC worked harder and won the second set, 25-16. With many serves in a row, Nemaha Central finished the B-team game with a big win, 15-3.
The first set of the eighth grade A-team started strong with a win of 25-17 against Royal Valley’s A-team. In the second set, NC grabbed another great win, 25-14. Finally, the last set ended with a Thunder victory, 15-10.
The seventh grade A-team started great, winning against Royal Valley, 25-21. The second set was close but NC lost, 22-25. The final set was a battle with extra scoring, but Royal Valley captured the win, 14-16.
Seventh grader, Emmie Monier, said, “I think we did well but we struggled, we had our ups and downs. We came out on top in the first set, but the rest of our sets didn’t go as well.”
The seventh grade B-team was more successful. NC won 25-16 in the first set. The second set was just as awesome with a win of 25-15. The B-team concluded with a loss of 14-16 in the third set against Royal Valley.
Nemaha Central’s volleyball teams also competed against SPPS. The eighth grade A-team played the SPPS A-team. The seventh grade A-team played the SPPS B-team. Both games were played at the same time.
In the eighth grade match against SPPS, NC won the first set with a battle back and forth going several extra points and ending with a score of 30-28. Next, in the second set, NC started strong but lost the tight game, 21-25. The third and deciding set found NC coming close but concluding with a loss, 10-15.
Olivia Hermesch, an eighth grader commented, “I think we did well against Royal Valley but we could have played better against SPPS.”
On the opposite court, NC’s seventh grade A-team won 25-16 against SPPS in the first set. Sadly, NC lost the second set, a close game, 24-26. The final set of the night ended with another victory for the Thunder, 15-7.
The volleyball teams played hard and had some very close games. Overall, they competed well against Royal Valley and SPPS.
