The Nemaha Central Middle School volleyball girls were excited to play the Holton Wildcats on Thursday, September 26, 2024. The games were played at home and the girls were looking for some wins in front of their home crowd.
The NC eighth grade B-team started off the night with a first set win with a score of 25-14. Unfortunately, the next two sets were losses for the Thunder. The second set ended with a score of 18-25. In the third set, the Thunder fought hard and hung on to extend the set into extra points, but came up a few points short losing 16-18.
The eighth grade A-team started slowly and couldn’t recover. They lost the first set, 16-25. The next set went much better as they won with a score of 25-18. They hoped to win the match by taking the third set but lost 6-15.
Alyvia Sudbeck said, “We played tough, but we could have played better and we did not give up."
The seventh grade A-team confidently stepped onto the court after picking up a win in their last match against Perry. The first two sets went well with Thunder victories with the scores of 25-17 and 25-12. The last set did not go well as the Thunder lost 8-15. This is still a match win for the Thunder.
Maggie Sudbeck said, “We won and everyone did a good job and improved a lot.”
The next match was the seventh grade B-team who started great with a first set win over the Wildcats 25-22. The second set was very similar to the first one and ended with another match win for the Thunder 25-22. Then, in the last set, they lost 2-15, but they were still able to get the match win.
The seventh grade teams came away from the night with a win for each team. The eighth grade was able to win one set in each of their matches, but could not get the match wins. The team has made many improvements and will hopefully continue getting better.
